Dietitians and Nutritionists are experts in food and nutrition. They advise people on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle or achieve a specific health-related goal. Dietitians help people improve their health by improving their diet. They can help people manage health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, cancer and food allergies, as well as improve their general health. Dietitians educate people about healthy eating habits and help them to develop appropriate eating plans and menus. They may also work with the food industry, providing advice on developing new healthier products or improving the nutritional value of existing ones. Nutritionists provide advice on making healthy dietary choices. They usually work in a preventative role, helping healthy people identify and modify unhealthy eating habits which could potentially lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and obesity. They study how the body breaks down and uses the nutrients found in food. This knowledge can be used to formulate healthy eating plans for clients, and to advise food manufacturers on ways to create healthy and nutritious product. Dietician and Nutritionist assess patients and clients health needs and diet, counsel patients on nutrition issues and healthy eating habits. They develop meal plans, taking both cost and clients preferences into account and evaluate the effects of meal plan and change the plans as needed. They write reports on patient’s progress. Dietician & Nutritionist promotes better nutrition by speaking to groups about diet, nutrition, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases. Work Environment

  • Registered Dietitian and Nutritionists work in many settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, the pharmaceutical industry, universities, community health centers, public health units, food manufacturing businesses, government, sports and recreation facilities, and many other places. In private practice, registered dietitians work under contract with health-care or food companies, or in their own business. They may provide services to restaurant managers, food vendors, distributors, athletes, nursing home residents, or company employees. They may work evenings and weekends so that they can meet with clients.
