Career as a Biophysicist


A biophysicist studies organisms by combining physics and biology. Considering the major objective is to investigate and explain various biological activities and interconnections at a molecular scale, this is also referred to as molecular science. Biophysicists perform their experiments mostly in labs. They gather, analyze, and analyze information. They may also alter their research from time to time to look for different elements that influence biochemical development in microorganisms. They utilize tamper-proof tools and technological equipment that allow them to manipulate study factors. Some biophysicists choose to educate postgraduate candidates at universities or other institutions of higher learning. Biophysicists frequently publicize or communicate their findings in peer-reviewed journals or in front of a large audience.   • Must possess at least 50% aggregate from a recognized institution in 12th, from any board PUC/CBSE/ICSE/ISC, etc. However, the cut-off margin varies with the selection process of different colleges.
  • Should procure a valid score in entrance exams such as JEE-Main, KIITEE, SRMJEE, CEE, HITSEE, CET, etc. Different colleges offer their entrance exams if you don’t have a satisfactory score in JEE or other competitive exams – colleges like NMIMS, Symbiosis International University, XUB, Andhra University, LPU, etc. Every state offers its entrance exam as well.
  • One must earn a degree in MBBS or a Diploma to become a Biophysicist. This is a basic qualification you must require to enroll in this line of work.
  • An M.Sc in Biophysicist can also prove to be helpful while looking for a higher degree and better learning.

  • Assess the different foundations of living organisms or creatures, as well as their mechanical and electrical energy, using math, physics, chemistry, or biology methodologies and expertise.
  • Explore the development, structure, or regulation of genotype activity, or look at how genetic modification could affect these activities.
  • Evaluate the impact of nutrients, pheromones, pathogens, chemicals, or catalysts on biological processes by isolating, analysing, or synthesising them.
  • X-rays and electron microscopes are used to study the spatial arrangements of submicroscopic molecules like proteins.
  • Develop or develop technologies using lasers, accelerators, or particle microscopes, for example.

  • Apprehension of Physics — Predictive analytics of basic phenomena, laws, their interactions, and fluid, substance, and air mechanics interpretation techniques, and mechanical, electric, atomic and subatomic structures and processes understanding.
  • Arithmetic Prowess — Being able to evaluate and interpret various mathematical equations and use them to address complex problems in arithmetic, geometry, calculus, and other areas.
  • Biological Knowledge — Awareness and a brief understanding of the working principles behind different genera and species of animals and plants, their interaction with the environment, relationship with the ecosystem, etc.
  • Medical Expertise — Brief understanding of procedures and methods to identify and attend to injuries, diseases, disorders, etc. This also includes alternate treatments to offer to the subject, symptoms seen, drugs used to reduce or cure sickness and offer preventive measures to reduce its circulation.
  • Chemical Dexterity – Able to understand the chemical structure and composition of substances available in the environment. Includes the understanding of changes, interactions between different substances, methods of production, and safe disposal of toxic substances.

Once you procure the required qualifications for becoming a Biophysicist, a myriad of options is open to you. There are multiple projects you can undertake throughout this line of work, and there are many other fields you can branch out to as well.

  • Toxicologist: A toxicologist is a scientist who investigates the presence of poisons or compounds in body fluids and tissue samples during autopsies. They operate in labs and employ a variety of techniques to find dangerous amounts of pharmaceuticals or other toxins in the human body. A toxicologist will measure the amounts detected and decide if they contributed significantly to the patient's death if hazardous substances are found. Furthermore, many toxicologists assist in the resolution of criminal cases and will testify in court in support of their laboratory findings.
  • Clinical Researcher: Clinical researchers are in charge of ensuring that these studies are carried out in an ethical way, in accordance with excellent clinical practice, and that all team members obey rigorous guidelines and standards. They are expected to handle papers and materials with care and in a secure way. The researchers are in charge of effective recruitment and selection of participants, keeping track of their health and development, and finally delivering their findings to the sponsoring organization. Scientists need a master's degree in chemistry or medicine to work in the area, with certain roles needing a Ph.D. and appropriate expert experience.
  • Clinical Research Associate: A Clinical Research Associate, often known as a monitor, works for a biotechnology company or for a contract research organization (CRO) that works on their behalf. Clinical trials are done at various stages, including trials on patients with a condition and research published after a new medication's introduction to evaluating the efficacy and negative impacts. The CRA will be responsible for all steps of the clinical study, including selecting an investigation location and establishing, beginning, evaluating, and terminating the experiment.
  • Pharmaceutical Scientist: A pharmaceutical scientist is someone who does research to help with medication production, evaluation, and identification. These individuals are generally bench-level scientists tasked with carrying out tests as part of a collaborative research endeavor aimed at bringing novel medicines to market. Pharmaceutical scientists are frequently employed by pharmacological or biotechnology firms that specialize in treatments development. Given the exploratory quality of the tasks, academically inclined children are generally drawn to this profession. Working to develop potentially life-saving medicines and enhance people's general health may also be extremely rewarding.
