Career as a Nanoscience Engineer

Also called Nanosystem Engineers, Nanoscience Engineers are associated with working and experimenting on particles and components that are invisible to the naked eye. They have the ability to work in several fields, through partnership with other doctors, scientists, engineers, researchers, etc., to develop new and better products that are viable without causing harm.

  • Must possess at least 50% aggregate from a recognized institution in 12th, from any board PUC/CBSE/ICSE/ISC, etc. However, the cut-off margin varies with the selection process of different colleges.
  • Should procure a valid score in entrance exams such as JEE-Main, KIITEE, SRMJEE, CEE, HITSEE, CET, etc., Different colleges offer their own entrance exams if you don’t have a satisfactory score in JEE or other competitive exams – colleges like NMIMS, Symbiosis International University, XUB, Andhra University, LPU, etc. Every state offers their own entrance exam as well.
  • One must earn a degree in B.Sc/B.Tech or a Diploma to become a Nanoscience Engineer. This is a basic qualification you must require to enroll in this line of work.
  • An M.Tech in Nanoscience Engineering can also prove to be helpful while looking for a higher degree and better learning.

  • Drafting proposals to secure funding from other companies or collaboration.
  • Supervising the work of technicians involved with the manufacture, synthesis and research of nanotechnology.
  • Preparation of reports, giving presentations and taking an active role to review the performance in various activities to provide an accurate result or recommendations for other roles.
  • Development of different processes or appliances for the production of scientific or commercial purposes.
  • Processing different engineering materials of nanotech for different applications like nanobots to cure different diseases, providing thermal insulation, increasing fuel efficiency, etc.

  • Engineering – Clear practical application of engineering and technology. Includes testing different theories, principles, methods, and using different equipments to create various types of devices.
  • Mathematics – A thorough grasp of mathematics which involves clear application of calculus, statistics, geometry, arithmetic, etc.
  • Chemistry – Able to understand the chemical structure and composition of substances involved in the production of nanotech. Includes the understanding of changes, interactions between different substances, methods of production and safe disposal.
  • Biology – Understanding the functioning and response in plants and animals to nanotech through experimentation and reaction of cell bodies, tissues, membranes in respect to their environment.
  • Mechanical – Able to understand the mechanism behind the working procedures of different machines to build, repair and provide assistance.

  • Clear Vision – Focusing on different kinds of microscopic objects and devices without strain and performing changes, repairs or production of different nano technology.
  • Versatile – Development of new and genuine ideas about solving a specific subject or concerns regarding a specific problem.
  • Calculation – Subtracting and multiplying and solving multiple equations pertaining towards nanotechnology.
  • Information Placement – Arranging different components or taking steps in a particular sequence to yield a particular result.
  • Oral Communication – Addressing information with clear and intricate details involved in the production, manufacture or repairs of nanotechnology.

Once you procure the required qualifications for becoming a NanoScience Engineer, there are many options that are viable. However, as this field is restricted to the study and research of microscopic components, this study cannot be used outside its own field.

  • Manufacturing Engineer: Manufacturing engineers are involved in the practice of creating new methods to improve the overall functionality of different products and devices. In NanoScience, they prioritize in devising new or upgrading existing methods to increase the potency of medicines, foods, change defective fragments in DNA, treat polluted water, air, etc.
  • Optical Engineer: Optical Engineering is primarily involved in designing different optical instruments such as lenses, telescopes, microscopes, etc., and other types of appliances. All of these equipments work on the principles of light. Helps provide substantial details of the particle or compound which isn’t visible to the naked eye.
  • Mechanical Engineer: Mechanical Engineers are involved in the design, manufacture and installation of different components of devices to allow them to function. They primarily deal with the prospects of designing and updating different mechanical equipments.
  • Technician Officer: Technician Officers are equipped with providing technical information to engineers, scientists, researchers, doctors, etc. They write technical guides, manuals and provide accurate procedures in specific sequences for others to come to the right result at the end of the procedure.
