Career as a Fitness Coach

A Fitness Coach is someone who leads, instructs, and motivates individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercise (exercises for the heart and blood system), strength training, and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels. As a Fitness Coach, they train people in different aspects of physical fitness, helping them get into shape and stay fit. They can instruct an individual or group in exercise routines such as weights, aerobics or the various machines available in a gymnasium. They will also give them basic advice on health and nutrition, including posture, change in lifestyle if required, etc. Fitness Coach helps clients assess their level of physical fitness. They help clients set and reach fitness goals, demonstrate exercise routines and help them improve their technique. Personal trainers work with clients on a one-on-one basis, either at a gym or at a client's home. The workout is specially tailored to suit the client's specific health and fitness requirements. Some experts conduct group workout sessions that involve aerobics, stretching and muscle conditioning exercises. They could even conduct these classes in a gym or at your own studio. Personal fitness trainers design and carry out workout routines specific to the needs of their clients. In larger facilities, personal trainers must often sell their training sessions to members. They start by evaluating their clients' current fitness level, personal goals, and skills. They then develop personalized training programs for their clients to follow, and they monitor the clients’ progress. Fitness trainers in smaller facilities often do a variety of tasks in addition to their fitness duties, such as tending the front desk, signing up new members, giving tours of the fitness center, writing newsletter articles, creating posters and flyers, and supervising the weight-training and cardiovascular equipment areas. In some facilities, a single trainer or instructor may provide individual sessions and teach group classes. Gyms and other types of health clubs offer many different activities for clients. However, trainers and instructors often specialize in only a few areas.

  • Fitness Trainers work in health clubs, fitness or recreation centers, gyms, country clubs, hospitals, universities, yoga and pilates studios, resorts, and clients' homes. Some fitness trainers also work in offices, where they organize and direct health and fitness programs for employees. Fitness Coaches must also work hard to remain fit and build stamina so that they can set a good example for their clients. Injury is sometimes possible with too much exercise and so they must take care of their health. They must also spend a large amount of time building new clients and making sure that the clients that they have are happy. Sometimes fitness trainers may be asked to go to clients houses for the training.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any field is the basic qualification in addition to which you can undertake courses that help you attain desired Certifications in Fitness.
