Summary

An Advertising Manager is someone who plans and directs the promotional and advertising campaigns of companies in order to generate interest in a product or service. They work with art directors, sales agents, and financial staff members in order to develop and execute these campaigns, and will often act as liaisons between agencies and clients. Often, an advertising manager serves as a liaison between the client requiring the advertising and an advertising or promotion agency that develops and places the ads. In larger organizations with an extensive advertising department, different advertising managers may oversee in-house accounts and creative and media services departments. General activities for this occupation include forming and directing the business' strategy for advertising, implementing advertising campaigns and supervising various advertising-related departments. During a specific advertising campaign, a manager must estimate the campaign's budget and approve the advertising material, as well as evaluate the campaign's overall performance following its conclusion.

Work Environment

Advertising account executives generally work in offices for specialist advertising agencies or within an organization’s advertising division. They regularly meet with clients at their workplaces. Advertising account executives usually work as part of a team, which may include an art director, copywriters and graphic designers. Work is pressurized as different advertising companies often compete for the same client account, and then have to meet client requirements within strict deadlines. Most advertising account executives work long hours and often which means early mornings, into the evening and on weekends.

Entry Level Education

Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Journalism or Mass Communication.
